We are delighted that local chef Gary Gamble will once again be organising his Newry Towpath Charity Cycle in aid of Addiction NI. This marks the 3rd year of this event and this time Gary wants to make it even bigger and better than before. The cycle route along the towpath is a beautiful and scenic ride and most importantly it is flat making it accessible to all cyclist regardless of their ability.
Refreshments will also be available for all participants at Scarva Tearooms.

REGISTRATION ON DAY The Addiction NI Team will be available for registration on the day from 9.00am– HALDANE FISHER Carpark. If possible please download, print and complete a Registration form and bring it with you on the day to allow for speedy enrolment.

You can choose to cycle as much or little of this scenic route as you want. Below is a breakdown of the possible finish points. To find our more about the route and to view a map click here
Route 1 – one way to Scarva Tea Rooms – 12km Start Point to Scarva Tea Rooms (refreshment stop) is 7.5 miles which equates to about 12km. If you choose this route option we would suggest that one vehicle is left at the tearooms prior to the race to allow for transport of riders and bikes.
Route 2 – return journey to Scarva Tea Rooms – 24km
Route 3 – one way to Poyntzpass – 16km Haldane Fisher Carpark to Poyntzpass is 10 miles which equates to about 16km. If you choose this route option we would suggest that one vehicle is left at Poyntzpass prior to the race to allow for transport of riders and bikes.
Route 4 – return journey to Poyntzpass – 32km
Route 5 – one way to Newry – 30km
Haldane Fisher Carpark to Newry is 19 miles which equates to about 30km. If you choose this route option we would suggest that one vehicle is left in Newry prior to the race to allow for transport of riders and bikes.
Route 4 – return journey to Newry – 60km
SAFETY ON ROUTE The cycle will be marshalled and signposted at all junctions with public highways. We ask all cyclists to be respectful and courteous of all other walkers, runners and cyclists using the towpath on the morning of 24th September. This is a public pathway and is open to all. Anyone cycling with children must take responsibility for their safety and well being at all times.

Before registering for this event, you should be fit to participate, seeking medical advice if appropriate. You should inform event organisers of any relevant existing medical conditions and any arising after registration that might affect your participation. Your safety is of paramount importance. Please ensure that you follow all safety instructions and training procedures when participating in events. Cyclists should ensure that their bicycles are in roadworthy condition. All cyclists MUST wear a helmet and MUST NOT use ipods, musical devices or telephones while cycling. The Newry Towpath is a public path so please show courtesy and respect to all other walkers, runner and cyclists using the path on that day. We have taken all reasonable steps to eliminate the chance of injury but there is a certain minimal risk in every activity and you should withdraw from the event if you have any doubts. Addiction NI, its employees, agents and volunteers accept no liability whatsoever to participants or spectators in respect of any loss, damage or personal injury which may be sustained in the course of this event other than personal injury (including death) caused by our negligence. Liability cannot be accepted for any damage, injury or loss arising from the negligence of participants (whether through failure to observe the rules of the event or otherwise).
Minimum ages are specified for some events. These assume an average level of competence and maturity. However all participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. It is for parents to decide if the event is appropriate for their child, seeking additional information, if necessary.
